I found these next gen Beetle “renders” on Instagram. I kinda love them. Too bad VW have given up on the Beetle.

There is some heavy Bugatti influence here...and I don't hate it.

I want to say that they’ll bring it back as an electric version but I wouldn’t hold out too much hope.

Looks better than anything vw ever built, however the new beetle isnt really a beetle at all imho.

This has to be the most surprised looking butt on any car.

For me, probably the least interesting of the original Beetle’s quirks and eccentricities was its rounded shape, and that was literally the only attribute VW chose to carry over to the retro revivals.
Had they built the Up Exclamation Point in its original RR design, that would have been a worthy successor. Cheap, light, efficient, modern, like the Beetle itself was when it was new in the '30s.

I just love how completely Volkswagen have forgotten their roots.

Something about a former CEO deciding that they had to move upmarket and become a "premium" brand, while also designing cars that were over engineered and over complicated, and designed to almost total themselves in 10 years.

Sounds about right

Let me know when you come across a dune buggy render of a modern Beetle.

Close enough?

Perfect, shoulder belts are questionable for any open top open wheeler though.

They totally will. They “gave up” on it before. I’m sure eventually, when the Golf platform is exclusively electric, they’ll start building it off of that again.

I don’t think 5 points are street legal.

For an open top or in general?
I’ve seen plenty of street legal racecars that had them installed.

Or they’ll repurpose the electric bus bits
If that ever enters production

There's a difference between OEM legal (which means NHTSA FMVSS compliant to be sold to the public as a new car) and road legal (which means passes relevant state safety inspections, if any).
